La Gloria Cubana Artesanos Retro Especiale -"Club" Review

La Gloria Cubana Artesanos Retro Especiale -"Club" - 5.75 X 47. Wrapper - Honduras Connecticut Seed, Double Binder - Nicaragua & Mexican, Filler - Nicaragua & Dominican Ligero and proprietary leaf. Medium bodied.

Initial lighting taste - Dry cedar wood.

First third - Spice and cedar with sweet creamy notes.

Second third - Spice, and now the sweet maple creaminess increases with underlying cedar. Excellent balance.

Last third - Spice, maple-sweet cream and cedar wood. Medium finish of spice and sweet cream.

Construction - Light-brown wrapper with three major veins visible. Very slight sheen. Burn was uneven producing a very dark gray (almost black) colored ash that was loose and flaky. Draw was perfect with good amounts of smoke.

I am usually not a big fan of Connecticut wrapped cigars but this cigar is definitely among the best that I have tried. It is actually a very good cigar - tasty, with good complexity and great balance. I really enjoyed the creamy maple sweetness balanced with the spiciness. I could see this cigar becoming part of my regular rotation and with an MSRP of $7.00 for this size, it makes even more sense to stock up on these cigars. With it being just about medium in body, this cigar can be smoked anytime of the day from morning with your coffee, to after a substantial dinner. Wether you are normally a Connecticut cigar smoker or not, I think that this is a cigar that would appeal to many different smokers.
